Today is Thanksgiving Day, in the United States, a national holiday since 1863, when Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it a day for giving thanks all across the nation. It has since become a holiday prelude to the Christmas season, a time for family get-togethers, eating turkey, watching football and gearing up for the onrush of holiday shopping.
